Closing Statement:

In conclusion, the use of drugs and smoking during school, students not being on their own property, and the number of shootings in schools by students strongly prove that school searches should be permitted. There are also many more arguments to prove that schools should be allowed to search students and their belongings while they are in school when there is reasonable suspicion.

Could you name some examples of embarrassing objects for teachers to know that students have?

What students bear outside of school/ at home should not concern the school, but when arms are brought into the school campus the school has a right to be concerned for the students, teachers, etc. safety.

The illnesses or medication should be cleared up with the school beforehand anyway.

They should not have anything to hide, in school, during school time.

Third Argument:

From 2013 till now, 160 incidents have occurred including fatal and nonfatal assaults, suicides, and unintentional shootings in schools in the United States.

1 point

Pocket and purse searches should be allowed because the students shouldn't have anything to hide anyway, however strip searches shouldn't be allowed because most students are minors.

Second Argument:

Students on the school campus are not in their own homes they are on someone else’s property. The fourth amendment states that, “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”

Reporting a student will not ensure the safety of others. One can not prove another guilty by suspecting.

1 point

If students are carrying illegal or dangerous objects, such as: guns, knives, marijuana, etc. it is the teachers responsibility to know and report it. This ensures the safety for all other students, teachers and other people at the school.
