2nd Amendment - Right to Bear Arms (Gun Laws)

Owning a gun is proved to be really important, but sometimes using a (fake) or a real un loaded gun can prove as an extremely effective bluff to scare away attackers. Such as in a fight where people have arrived to jump you are team up in a very unfair advantage, by pulling out the fake gun you could scare off all your attackers and prevent the situation, or in a situation of rape, if you pull out the bluff gun the attacker or rapist could get scared off.

In conclusion, we strongly believe that people should have the right to own guns, under certain restrictions to keep people from using the firearms insecurely. Firearms could help people in times of need such as for self defense in crimes such as rape, using the firearm as an effective bluff to resolve the issue, and a good tool for hunters or people in the woods running low on food resources.

Opening Statement

It's been quite a controversial topic about the fourth amendment in the United states of America. Many people argue that it should exist and side against it. While others believe it should be an amendment with certain restrictions. I feel strongly that the people should have the right to own guns, with certain restrictions. As stated by Obama, one in 5 women have been raped or been attempted to be raped in their lifetime. And the main cause of this could be due to very little lack of self defense. Although having the right to owning a gun is necessary, There must be certain restrictions put in place to control people from “taking it too far” Some people might be mentally ill, under age, or not in the right physical state to own a gun and may cause or inflict a severe amount of damage against the people around them, and for that instance I would suggest a test that can prove a person worthy of owning the firearm. Many people even side against such a reasonable offer, Owning a gun can provide many things, such as self defense against attackers, a weapon that can be used as a bluff. And guns can be used as a tool for hunting animals.

Talking about the uses of guns, self defense is one extremely important factor that comes into play. Countless amounts of women get raped each year due to being helpless against their attacker. Which leads to the topic of those women being able to own a gun, While it doesn't have to be packed, it can serve as a useful tool to scare off the attacker. Moving on from the rape, a person might find himself in a home robbery, or even in worse case murderer, so having a gun at the establishment could scare off the robber, or again in the worst case, having to shoot the robber.

- 39% of kids know where their parents guns are

- 22% of parents who say their child has never handled their gun end up not knowing that their child has indeed handled the gun.

- 72% of all teenagers who are shot are traced back to the original gun found in the house.

A gun is also good for hunting because you can catch animals that intrude your area. For example if a bear or pet that is wild goes loose then you can defend yourself and your house.

It can also d tool when you are hunting and an animal be good for hunting animals, such as boar, deer, and antelopes that hunters might need to eat when in a situation with little food.

Argument 3:

Also, people who have grown up in poor ghettos or poor communities, don’t have the sense to distinguish between right and wrong. More often than not, when these people are faced with a problem that they can’t solve by themselves, they often resort to violence and killings. This is why the US has more than 1 million deaths in 2016 alone in relation to gang related violence.

This is why the US has more than 1 million deaths in relation to gang related violence. Although we can fix this problem by eradicating poverty from these places, the easier way to solve this problem is to ban guns or have a quota of education that they have to fill to purchase a gun. For example, they need to have completed high school to own a gun because by the end of high school, people should be able to distinguish between right and wrong.

Closing Statement:

In conclusion, guns should be prohibited or at least regulated in the United States because people are killed every other day because literally everyone can buy these weapons. People say that cancer is the biggest killer but usually, people who wield guns and the ones who don't know how to use them correctly end up killing innocent people and children. Many people feel that this is one of the biggest problems the world is facing now because of the staggering number of deaths in such a short period of time. For these reason and more, guns should be at least regulated if not banned altogether and we will see the change and it will be instantaneous, no doubt.

Opening Statement:

A much worthy topic of debate is the fourth amendment. Many argue that people should have the right to own guns with restrictions, but I strongly believe that people shouldn't have the right to own guns at all. There are many instances in where a person might get into a heated argument at say, a bar and pull out their firearm (which they passed legal requirements for when they were sober) and pull out the gun and start firing, killing and injuring many people at the bar. This is an example of a time where it would be unnecessary to own a gun. And a plus, making it legal allows guns to be brought into the country, making them easier to deal illegally, and pass around to robbers and criminals. But by eliminating the problem of guns all together, there would be less in the country, and subsequently, less accidents involving guns. So in general banning the right for citizens to own guns prevents people from using a gun irrationally , prevents criminals from getting their hands on more guns, and decreases the chances of suicides to happen (as people can use guns for suicide). Shining light on the topic of police force, there shouldn't be much to worry about as the cops could be called at any time to aid citizens in a time of need.

Argument 1:

As the opposition stated, "one in 5 women have been raped or been attempted to be raped in their lifetime," people could argue that owning guns gives a sense of protection, but over 89% of crimes directed towards women, the offender does not have a gun, so enforcing gun laws will not improve the situation.

One of the most important reasons why guns should be illegal in the us is due to the people owning it. Although they could pass some requirements to get the guns, all people make mistakes, or sometimes a wrong decision, which could end with people getting fatally injured. As well as the possibility that some might get them illegally due to them being allowed in the states, giving them more of an opportunity to bribe sellers, or just get their hands on the guns. Countless deaths are recorded in modern day America because of the use of guns, whereas in other countries such as the UAE strict trade laws and the ban on guns lower the crime rate substantially, making the UAE have less than a 1% murder rate a year.

As the opposition said "Shining light on the topic of police force, there shouldn't be much to worry about as the cops could be called at any time to aid citizens in a time of need."

what if you are in trouble and need help right away, you can't wait 10 minutes for the police to arrive by then you could be killed. Maybe when your house is attempted to be broken into then you can but not when you are on the street and some one is trying to stab you or staring at you funny or approaching you with a weapon then what are the cop

going to do then? nothing.

I beg to differ, the topic of this debate is about gun rights. Not police force or anything else, although if you do want some ACTUAL information, pepper spray, tasers, brass knuckles, and other forms of self-defense are perfectly fine. Oh and while I'm here, "cope" is spelled "cop"

Although guns can be made illegal (in which they are in many states) , people never cease to stop owning guns! And the criminals have a higher advantage when robbing at gun point, and rape as they have their guns illegally, while the citizens are following the law and going into these dangerous situations un-armed

Americans own 300 million guns, 1.7 million children live in homes where they are fully loaded and unlocked, that's almost the same amount of guns criminals commit crimes with.

exactly no one is ever gonna stop owning guns and even police own guns and keep them in their house and some of those police man have kids and those kids can also take their gun without knowing and yeah its gonna help a little bit but it still wont make a big difference in the amount of gun injuries.

As mentioned by the opposition, suicides could be decreased. But i beg to differ, although they could not have the right to own the guns, there are many different styles of suicide , which people could use instead making the gun restriction pointless.

Argument 2:

Continuing on, a reason why guns should be banned are because of how easy it is to purchase them, kids as young as 13 years old can walk into a store and purchase a gun without a license. While some states have caught up to this and require a license, at least. But this doesn’t solve the issue, a stranger who does not even have his criminal record checked should not be able to go to a gun store and purchase guns. Continuing on, I haven’t even mentioned people with disabilities or mental issues, still having the right to buy guns and put countless lives in danger, the US is recorded as one of the countries with the HIGHEST murder rate, and while saying they might have a massive population, the murder rate in China is nowhere near the rate in the US.

This counteracts my claim altogether. I had stated how they should have rules and restrictions to contain kids, and immature or people not mentally stable people from owning these guns, as stated in my opening statement.

Because Guns Stop Burglars. Last year, the CDC estimated that Americans used guns about 498,000 times to frighten away intruders attempting to break into homes. Also Minimum Age for Gun Possession: Federal law prohibits, with certain exceptions, the possession of a handgun or handgun ammunition by any person under the age of 18. You can just walk in a shop and buy a gun. You would have to show your ID or gun licence.

Yes i agree that there should be an age limit when buying a gun, but as we said in our argument there should be some restrictions such as take some tests to make sure you are a licensed owner of a gun.

No, we are not agreeing with the fact that guns should not be allowed to be owned, we are agreeing with the fact that with the appropriate age limit to buying a gun as it says in our amendment that everyone has the right to own guns but with the legal rights in order to purchase a gun.
